The stormy weather has continued to wreak havoc on Prestwich Heys fixtures with home games against Litherland and Barnoldswick Town both postponed in this past week.
It means Heys last four fixtures have been called off and they will be hoping for an improvement in the conditions to allow this Saturday’s trip to Northwich Victoria to go ahead.
Northwich were Heys first opponents of the season back at the end of July and Matt Barnes side were given a harsh introduction to life in the Premier Division as Vics ran out 4-0 winners at Adie Moran Park.
Those early weeks were certainly an eye opener with Heys failing to win any of their first four matches, but it is a measure of their progress that with nine games remaining they are all but guaranteed Premier Division football for another season. Heys are presently sixteenth in the table with 37 points from 31 games and are twelve clear of second bottom Runcorn Town on whom they have three games in hand. Whilst not mathematically safe, it would seem it would take an extraordinary turn of results for Heys to be relegated.
Their hosts on Saturday presently sit with 50 points from 33 games and had eyes on a possible push for promotion in the autumn but six defeats in the last twelve matches have ended those hopes. Nonetheless, it’s a tough looking assignment for Heys but one which may provide a gauge of how far they have come since that opening day defeat.
