Heys were not able to build on their opening day success as they were beaten 2-1 by bogey team Stockport Town on Monday night.
In three meetings now, Heys have lost to Town every time and they could have few complaints about this result as the hosts dominated the second half to take the points.
The game started in the worst possible manner for Jon Lyons’ team as they fell behind in the 2nd minute. Tyler Edwards drove a shot across the face of goal only for Max White to divert the ball into his own net.
The hosts were proving the livelier of the two sides and there were some anxious moments for Heys before they broke the pressure to force four successive corners which came to nought.
The shift in momentum almost saw Heys level in the 16th minute as an Alfie Belcher turn and shot saw the ball just clear the bar.
The home side then returned to the attack and it took a fine close range save by Andrei Stinca to deny Ashley Stott.
Stinca’s opposite number Dylan Forth then excelled to deny Heys making a double save from Dylan Moth.
As play swung from end to end Forth was to deny Moth again in the 43rd minute but from the ensuing corner Heys did level as Max White’s corner was headed into his own goal by Conor Downes.
The hosts came out strongly in the second half and Stinca was soon in action to keep out an Edwards shot.
However, it proved to be only a temporary reprieve as in the 48th minute Stockport went ahead when Ashley Stott turned home a Downes cross from close range.
That set the tone for the second half as Stockport created a host of chances. Heys were unable to gain any momentum and were indebted to keeper Andrei Stinca who made several crucial interventions to keep them in the contest, notably with two excellent stops to deny Downes and Edwards
Whilst the margin remained at one goal Heys remained in the game. Belcher twice gave them hope, first with a shot that whistled past the post five minutes from time and then in the dying moments he surged into the box before pulling the ball back across goal but no one could make the crucial contact.
However, it was too late for Heys as their Stockport hoodoo continued.
