Heys return to League action on Saturday when they welcome Charnock Richard to Adie Moran Park (3pm) in the NW Counties League Premier Division.
After ending their long wait for a win in the Macron Cup against Cheadle Heath Nomads on Tuesday, Heys will hoping to use the boost to morale and confidence that victory brought as they seek valuable League points in their quest to avoid relegation.
Their position in the table worsened in the week when Pilkington defeated South Liverpool and Heys are now eleven points off safety with a game in hand on the Merseyside outfit. They will be boosted by half a dozen players, unavailable on Tuesday due to Cup rules, being back in the squad tomorrow. Although beaten 3-0 at Chadderton in their last league outing, the scoreline was harsh. The performance more than merited some return and they will be hoping to turn that promise into points soon, if they are to have any chance of staying up.
Charnock started the season as one of the highly fancied teams as they looked to build on their amazing run to the play offs last season. They started the season well losing only once in their opening eight games but since then have struggled for consistency. They come into tomorrow’s game with only one win in their last five matches.
However, they are side packed with talent particularly in attack with the likes of ex Heys man Matt Davies, Nathan Nickeas and Kuda Chingwaro and you sense that they will start to climb the table sooner rather than later.
This will be a tough assignment for Heys but it also promises to be a hard-fought contest for two sides looking to get back the winning habit if, at present, for different ambitions.
A minute’s silence will be held ahead of the game in honour of Peter Gilmour, at approx. 2.55pm.
