Heys head to the Coast on Saturday as they travel to Blackpool to face Squires Gate in the NW Counties Premier Division. (3pm)
It’s been a difficult start to the campaign for both clubs who go into the game with an identical return of four points from seven games.
Squires Gate sit third bottom. They started off the season with a dramatic 4-4 home draw against Bury with their other points coming from a 1-0 home victory over Irlam. They were beaten 3-0 at Lower Breck in their last outing but by and large they have not found goals hard to come by although equally they have conceded at the other end. Having suffered additional losses to Abbey Hey, AFC Liverpool and Burscough their goals for and against column reads for their seven League games, for 13 against 22. The prolific Dean Ing has been amongst the goals again with six to his name, whilst James Hughes has notched five.
Heys for their part have struggled on the goals front with just seven to their tally but save the four conceded at St. Helens on Tuesday have looked tight at the back. They will travel hoping to restore that defensive resilience and capitalise on any defensive issues the home side may have.
It’s still early days in the season but there will already be a feeling for both clubs that this is a key game as they look to keep their heads above water and not be dragged into the lower reaches as we start to head into Autumn and the table starts to take shape.
