Heys make the trip to Merseyside to face South Liverpool on Wednesday night (7.45pm) in the NW Counties Premier Division.
The hosts have an illustrious history as one of the most successful sides in the Merseyside region, and for a time were members of the Northern Premier League. After losing their Holly Park ground in 1989 (now Liverpool South Parkway Station) the club folded and reformed in the early nineties and have made steady progress since culminating in their joining the NW Counties League in 2021. They were promoted to the Premier Division last season after winning the First Division North play-offs.
Under Manager Martin Ryman, who has been in charge since 2001, amassing over 800 games at the helm, they have made an unbeaten start to the season. Goalless Home draws with Charnock Richard and Lower Breck were followed by FA Cup success with a 2-0 replay win over Handsworth. Their first League win came at the weekend with a 2-1 home win over Glossop North End courtesy of two goals from Elliot Owen, who has four strikes to his credit already this season. They go into Wednesday’s game in 12th place.
Heys picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 home draw against Colne on Saturday. After late goals saw them lose at Cheadle and at home AFC Liverpool in their opening two League matches, bosses Russ Saunders and Matty Russell, will be looking for their side to pick up their first win to move themselves up the table from their current 18th place.
