Heys welcome Kendal Town to Adie Moran Park looking to maintain their climb up the North West Counties League Premier Division table.
Lee 0’Brien and James Hampson have seen their side put together a seven-match unbeaten League run that has seen them accumulate nineteen points. Saturday’s hard-earned win over Skelmersdale United lifted Heys into eighth place in the table with twenty-seven points from fourteen games. They now sit just two points off the play off places and nine off the summit, a position currently occupied by Bury.
Heys also have between one and four games in hand on all the teams above them but the challenge now, having worked so hard to get themselves into this position, is to maintain that momentum and stake their place and stay in and amongst those top five places.
It’s a tough ask in a highly competitive division, the weekend win over Skem, highlighted there are no easy games, and tonight’s visitors Kendal represent a stiff challenge. In many ways, the visitors season is reflective of that competitive nature of the League. Kendal made a flying start to the season with eight wins and a draw in their opening nine games and looked set to run away with things.
A couple of defeats halted their progress, as the Mint Cakes lost 1-0 at Colne before going down 2-1 at home to Ramsbottom. Victories over Skelmersdale and Squires Gate steadied the ship but defeats to Wythenshawe Town, Colne and a draw at West Didsbury have seen them slip to third with 32 points from sixteen games, four points off Bury but with two games in hand.
After finishing twelfth last season, following their relegation from the Northern Premier League, Kendal recruited well in the Summer, as they seek a return to the higher level and in addition to the prolific Steven Yawson they have added further goals to their squad with the signing of James Bailey who has found the net nineteen times this season, However a red card last Tuesday night may see him missing on Tuesday night.
A tight encounter looks on the cards as both teams look to enhance their position in what, even at this relatively early stage of the season, looks like being a closely fought promotion battle.
