Heys are set to return to action at Burscough on Saturday, in the NW Counties Premier Division (3pm).
After the frustration of recent postponements, their hosts 4G pitch should ensure that Heys Managers Lee O’Brien and James Hampson can prepare their team in the knowledge the game will not be affected by the weather. They will be looking for their side to bounce back to winning ways. After an unbeaten January, this month has seen three successive losses, two in the League. Heys, who sit fifth in the table, have lost ground on the top four, whilst seeing the sides below them make up ground. However, with between two and five matches in hand on the chasing pack, obtaining a play-off place remains very much in their own hands, but they will be conscious of the need to pick up their form quickly.
Burscough have had a difficult season. After a 3-1 opening day win at Heys, was followed by a home win over Lower Breck, hopes were high but a run eight defeats in ten games saw those expectations evaporate and facing a battle to beat the drop. However, since the beginning of December they have steadily picked up points and now sit third from the bottom of the table with 31 points from 35 games and have a twelve-point cushion and two games in hand on bottom club Skelmersdale. A 2-1 loss at Cheadle last time out came after a three-match unbeaten run, which included a 2-2 draw at Bury, and Burscough will also be looking to bounce back as they look to fully banish any relegation fears.
