Despite the weather the match is ON

Heys welcome AFC Liverpool to Adie Moran Park this afternoon looking to extend their unbeaten League run to ten games.

After a stop/start beginning to the season Heys have steadily climbed the table and come into the game in 7th place, three points off the top five promotion play-off spots, but with two and three games in hand on those top five clubs. Three draws in the last four have slowed their climb up the table but that cannot diminish, in a highly competitive League, their achievement in chalking up nine games without a loss.

With today’s game and next weekend’s visit of Cheadle Town, Lee O’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for their side to make home comforts count and push into the play-off spots.

However, today’s visitors are the last team to beat Heys, back on 29th August when winning 2-0 at the Marine Travel Arena. In fact, the Merseyside outfit have been something of a thorn in Heys side over the years. In the ten meetings between the clubs, AFC have come out on top in eight of them, with Heys winning the other two.

After finishing sixth last season, the visitors plans for this campaign were hit by the surprise departure of Manager Matt Potter in the Summer. Phil Stafford, a former Club Captain, who has managed at Litherland and Bootle took the reins and although there were some departures, he has brought in several new signings to blend in with familiar names like Kyle Scorah and Tom Croughan who were on the mark in that win over Heys.

Their victory over Heys was one of four successive wins that brought fifteen points from the first eight games. However, they enter today’s game on the back of seven matches without a win which have yielded just two points, to leave them 20th in the table, with seventeen points from fifteen games. Given their past record, it maybe the visit to Prestwich is a welcome sight!
