Heys return to North West Counties League Premier Division action on Saturday with a trip to Lower Breck (3pm).
After the disappointment of last weekend’s FA Vase exit, Lee 0’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for their side to bounce back to winning ways as they enter a busy period of matches, free of any cup commitments. The Management team will also be reminding their team that they enter the game on the back of four successive League wins over Padiham, FC Isle of Man, Ramsbottom and Chadderton.
Those results did lift Heys into the top half of the table, but with a two week break from League action they have now dropped down to 12th. However, they do have between one and four games in hand on all the teams above them and over the coming weeks the focus will be on trying to make those matches count and close in on the leading pack, adding to the 20 points gathered from eleven games.
Lower Breck come into the game in 15th place in the table with 16 points from twelve games. After collecting just three points from their opening five games, a run of four wins from the next five matches pushed the Anfield side up the table. That run included eye-catching home wins over Ramsbottom (5-2), Colne (3-0) and Bury (2-1). Since then, there has been a goalless draw at Cheadle before an agonising 95th minute goal saw them lose 3-2 at West Didsbury on Tuesday night.
Nonetheless, it’s been a solid start to the campaign for our hosts for whom Connor Rankin is top scorer with seven goals in a squad that also includes former Heys man Regan Jarrett.
The teams have met eight times altogether with three wins apiece and two draws. However, Heys have never won on Merseyside with two defeats and two draws in their previous visits to the Anfield Sports Community Centre.
