Heys head into Cheshire to play Northwich Victoria on Saturday (3pm).
It was in early December when the sides last met in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Adie Moran Park. Since then, the weather has played its part making it a stop start period for both teams.
Northwich have played six games since then winning three, drawing one and losing two. Two of their wins have come in Cup competition, with a 6-1 win over Barnton in the Mid Cheshire Cup and a 4-3 win at Barnoldswick on Thursday night in the League’s Macron Cup.
League wise there were two home defeats over the festive period to sides in the leading pack. Congleton went home 2-1 winners on Boxing Day before Bury AFC romped home 6-1 victors four day later. A 0-0 home draw with Wythenshawe Town in their last league outing steadied the ship meaning Northwich go into the game in sixth position with 43 points from 24 games. Tomorrow’s fixture kicks off a run of four games in ten days for Vics including AFC Liverpool’s visit in midweek and a trip to Vauxhall Motors the midweek after. They will doubtless be looking at this as a key run of matches to consolidate their position and shape what the remainder of the season may hold for them.
Heys have played just three games since that last meeting. A 1-0 loss at Litherland was sandwiched by a 1-0 home win over Lower Breck and Tuesday’s night’s 1-1 draw with Kendal Town. It’s been a difficult period for Heys with injuries and suspensions playing heavily on them but the past week has seen several players return to action. Heys sit eighth in the table with 42 points from 25 games. After a difficult spell, with players returning, they will be looking to this game, which is one of those they face against seven of the sides above them before season’s end, to hopefully kick start a strong finish to their campaign and fulfil their early season promise.
