Heys welcome Ramsbottom United to Adie Moran Park on Friday night in the Macron Cup 3rd Round (7.45PM).
After a difficult season in the League, where Heys are presently bottom of the NW Counties Premier Division, the League’s cup competition has been a ray of light.
Heys disposed of Premier Division rivals Irlam in the opening round on penalties, following a 2-2 draw and followed that up with a 1-0 success over First Division Cheadle Heath Nomads in Round Two.
Ramsbottom will provide their stiffest test thus far. The Rams are presently second in the Premier Division table where they trail by Chadderton by two points, with Bury a point further back in third. Their cup progress has been markedly similar to Heys, with a penalty shoot-out win over Premier Division opposition in West Didsbury & Chorlton in the opening following a 2-2 draw. A 1-0 home win over First Division Stockport Georgians followed in the Second Round.
When Heys and Ramsbottom met earlier in the season, it was The Rams who ran out 2-1 winners at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium. Friday’s game will be decided on the night with the game going straight to penalties if the scores are level at ninety minutes. The winners will progress into the last eight of the competition.
