Its Macron Cup action for Heys on Tuesday night as they welcome Wythenshawe to Adie Moran Park in the Macron Cup Second Round.
Heys come into the game on the back of successive home victories over Litherland REMYCA and Cheadle Town in the League which sees them sit fourth in the Premier Division table, three points behind tonight’s visitors who have played one game less.
After a slow start to the season Heys have steadily climbed the table into the play off spots and title contention. Wythenshawe were one of the teams to beat them in those early weeks of the campaign with an emphatic 5-2 win here back in August. Heys will be looking to avenge that loss and will look at this game as a benchmark as to the progress they have made.
After gaining promotion as First Division South Champions last season, Wythenshawe have made a big impression in their first season at Premier Division level. They are presently top of the table with 47 points from 22 games, two points clear of second placed Bury with two games in hand. Manager Shane Goldrick (pictured right) side also boast the best goalscoring and defensive records in the Division.
Wythenshawe suffered a Lancashire Trophy exit at Colne in their last outing but prior to that had won seven of their previous eight games. That run included a 3-1 victory over Cammell Laird in the opening round of the Macron Cup from which Heys received a bye.
The game brings two of the NW Counties League top strikers into battle in the form of Wythenshawe’s 18 goal Bryan Ly and Heys Greg Daniels who has 17 goals to his credit. The strike power of these two players could prove key to the outcome of what promises to be a great game between these two old rivals.
