Heys turn their attention to the Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday as they welcome Parkgate to Adie Moran Park for a 2nd Qualifying Round tie (3pm).
Parkgate, who are based in Rotherham, play in the North East Counties League Division One, the same division as our opponents in the previous round, Beverley Town. The visitors have made a flying start to their season having won all ten of the games they have played. They have played eight games in the League, where they sit second, one point behind the leaders Wombwell but with two games in hand. Parkgate also have an impressive plus 23 goal difference. In knockout football, “The Steelmen” had a 3-0 League Cup win at Glasshoughton in midweek whilst in the previous round of the FA Vase they won 3-1 away at one of their divisional rivals Dronfield.
Their start to the season completes a revival in fortunes under Manager Scot Mason who came in at the beginning of last season and had to build a squad from scratch after the previous Manger and all the players left for Maltby Main en masse. It was some achievement to avoid relegation and finish seventh from bottom but it has also acted as a springboard for this season’s fine start where top scorers Ross Duggan (11 goals) and Silas Valladolid-Collins (7) have been to the fore.
Heys however will approach the game in good spirits. After a stop, start opening to the season Lee 0’Brien and James Hampson’s side have been quietly building momentum and have climbed the League table over the past fortnight with four successive League wins over Padiham, FC Isle of Man, Ramsbottom and Chadderton to move up to seventh in the table with 20 points from eleven games.
In the wider scheme of things, they have won seven of their last nine games across all competitions which includes our 4-1 win over Beverley Town in the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round. Whilst there was disappointment at the postponement of the midweek home game with table topping Kendal Town, it at least afforded a break after a hectic start to the season and the Heys Management team will be looking for their side to pick up their momentum when they take the field for what looks a tough tie.
If the scores are level at ninety minutes, there is no extra time with the match going straight to penalties. The winning team will receive £725 and the losing side £225.
The First Round is on Saturday 21st October and the draw will be announced on Monday at 1pm.
