With the games coming thick and fast, it’s the Isuzu FA Vase that takes Heys attentions this afternoon as they welcome Beverley Town to Adie Moran Park in the First Qualifying Round.
Our visitors will be playing their first ever game in the FA Vase today. Based to the north of Hull, they play in the Northern Counties East Football League Division One, which is the equivalent of NW Counties Division One
Beverley made the step up into semi-professional football in the Summer of 2022 after gaining promotion from the Humber Premier League and finished 11th last season with 51 points from 38 games. They have made a good start to this season with ten points from their first five games having won three, drawn one and lost one. Their one defeat came at home to League leaders Harrogate Railway Athletic where two goals in the last five minutes saw the visitors come from behind to win 4-3. Beverley come into the game on the back of a 5-0 away at Yorkshire Amateur last weekend.
Heys have had a busy start to the season with games in the League and FA Cup. After the disappointing defeat to Wythenshawe in our last home game, we have bounced back with an impressive 2-0 Cup win at Penistone Church, who are in the division above todays’ visitors, followed by a fine 4-2 win at Cheadle Town in the League on Tuesday.
Although the loss to Wythenshawe was a hammer blow, the wider picture shows that is our only loss in the last seven games, four of which have been won, with two draws. Lee O’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for their side to build on that overall pattern of form today as they look to add to their FA Cup success with progress in the Vase.
If the scores are level at ninety minutes today, there is no extra time with the match going straight to penalties.
The Winners will be at home in the 2nd Qualifying Round to either Parkgate or Dronfield Town, both of the Northern Counties East First Division, on 23rd September.
The winning team will receive £550 and the losing side £160.
