(from Saturday's programme v Holker)
First, Ryan, would you like to introduce yourself to everyone by telling us a bit about yourself and your career?
I joined the club from Irlam FC having last season led their Under 21's side to a Cheshire FA Under 21's League treble of Premier Division title, League Cup and Premier Division Cup.
I started my football career at Manchester United as a schoolboy, spending three years there before moving onto Stoke City where I spent three years doing a scholarship and 2 years as a professional.
After that I had spells at Altrincham, Chorley and Salford City before finishing my playing career at Irlam FC.
After hanging up my boots I became Manager at Irlam Steel, then playing in the Cheshire League, winning the League in my 1st season whilst going undefeated all year.
The following season I moved back to Irlam FC as coach of the 1st team for a couple of seasons before becoming U21's manager and achieving last season's treble.
What are your first impressions of life at Heys?
I knew Heys was a big club before I made the decision to join but having been at the club now for around two months and after meeting all the management team, the players and committee members it's a lot bigger than what I thought and I've no doubt it will continue to develop and grow. Everyone here has made me feel very welcome which is nice but also not a surprise given the clubs reputation.
Coming from a long-established Counties club like Irlam how do Heys, still building in development terms, match up as a club?
Very similar in so many ways. Irlam is a great club but I think Prestwich are going in the right direction with their plans behind the scenes. With regards to the football side of things, I think If we are to take Prestwich to the next level, where Irlam are, the structure of the club in terms of football development may have to change. Joffy (Jon Lyons) and myself have already spoken about the possibility of getting an U18s and a U21s development team in place which will take time but will benefit the club in years to come.
Were you already familiar with the rest of the management team and players?
I've known Joffy now for a good 20 years. I played with and against Bradley Lyons, Joffy's cousin, for the town team Salford Boys and against Bolton Wanderers in the academy system where Joffy used to come and watch on a regular basis.
I also played with Joffy for Irlam back in the day!
And I know the likes of Baguleys, Woody, Danny White, Max, Shauny from other clubs in the non-league system!
What have you made of the season so far?
It's always nice to get a good pre-season under your belt and myself and Joffy were happy to have done that, and with two wins from three games we have had a decent start scoring nine goals. Our concern at the minute is we're conceding too many goals, this will be an area we look to develop and one which we will be working hard on in the coming weeks. I'm sure addressing this sooner rather than later will improve the team further.
As Captain and Vice-Captain Jake Wood and Danny White have hit the ground running- what do you make of their contributions?
It really doesn't surprise me with the start they've both made to be honest both are top, top players who have played at a much higher level. Both lads are a joy to have around the place!
I always think it's difficult choosing a captain and vice-captain but both fit the bill perfectly as both set good examples for the others on and off the pitch which is important if you want to be successful.
Who else has took your eye?
It's hard to single anyone player out as all players have different roles to play but young Alfie has made an impact in pre-season. We know he has got a lot to learn and he's fully aware of this but I know he will be a top player for the club in the future. Danny Vincent is a bit of a dark horse and has impressed me massively. I always think defenders go un-noticed at times but he's been consistent every week. Dylan and Rio both have great ability and will be massive for us but I really could discuss all the players because they've all caught my eye in their own little way! They really are a top bunch of players.
Any thoughts on today's game with Holker?
Three points is our only thought before any game but even more so with the game being at Home. It's important we make Adie Moran Park a difficult place to come this season So three points today and a clean sheet will be great, if you said, take 1-0 now, I’d snap your hand off but I'm looking forward to it.
Finally, I'd Just like to thank Joffy for giving me this opportunity to come to work with a great bunch of people both on and off the pitch and hopefully it'll be a successful season which we can all enjoy!
