Heys scored a dramatic penalty shootout victory to sink Whitley Bay in the FA Vase 2nd Round at Adie Moran Park today.
After a fantastic 90 minutes of football finished 1-1, the game went to spot kicks before Heys emerged victorious with Scot Cullen netting the decisive strike for an 8-7 victory.
The match itself ebbed and flowed throughout with both sides having chances and varying moments of control.
A Rudy Misambo header gave Heys a 23rd minute lead before the visitors responded in the 66th minute with a close range Josh Gilchrist finish.
When it went to penalties both teams converted their first four spot kicks before Whitley Bay missed via a Jordan Hadlow save. That gave Tyler James the chance to win it but his spot kick was saved.
In sudden death both teams scored to take it to 7-7 before Hadlow saved again for Heys.
Then up-stepped Cullen to score and give Heys a famous victory over the four times winners.
